You Know Somebody Unruly? Take ’em to Cell Block 7 in Jackson!
Even though this tour isn't intended for that, it's not a bad idea...kids who MAY be heading down the wrong path might just take a different direction once they get behind prison walls.
As Barney Fife puts it in the video above, "No more carefree hours...no more doin' whatever you want whenever you want...no more peanut butter and jelly sandwiches."
The old Southern Michigan prison in Jackson is still a functioning prison; prisoners are in plain sight as they walk thru the prison yard. Yet it has a public museum and is open to tour Cell Block 7 with displays that tell the history of Michigan's prison system.
This is definitely on my list of things to do; it's an intriguing look at incarceration over the last century. Take the tour and see for yourself! Their slogan: "As close to prison as you ever want to get."
