According to the Lansing State Journal, newly released federal data tracks the path of more than 71 million prescription pain pills pumped into Ingham County over seven years.

Five companies distributed over 52 million of those hydrocodone and oxycodone pills from 2006 through 2012, according to a once secret database from the Drug Enforcement Administration.

During that time period, 131 people died from opioid overdoses in Ingham County, according to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services.

The data release was a recent development in a historic lawsuit filed by more than 2,000 states and localities against drugmakers and distributors.
