Everyone knows that wearing your seat belt while driving is the law.  Early reports show that nearly 3,000 tickets have been given to Michigan drivers for not wearing them.

According to WILX News 10, Your Breaking News and Weather Authority, Michigan's click it or ticket enforcement campaign took place between May 20 and June 2.

During that time, 8,145 traffic stops were made and a total of 2,930 seat belt and child restraint tickets were given from 109 officers from local police departments, sheriff offices and Michigan State Police posted in 38 counties.

Seat belt use in Michigan stands at 93.4 percent, which is a bit higher than the national seat belt use rate of 89.6 percent in 2018, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
