We all say Bah Hum-Bug to winter, nonetheless, we all need to prepare for the coming of snow, ice and cold.  48 states (all but Florida and Hawaii) can expect at least one winter storm, on average, per year.

Here are a few tips to get your home ready for winter, courtesy of FEMA:

Insulate walls and attics, add caulk and weatherstripping to doors and windows, and install storm windows for cover windows with plastic.

Get heating equipment and chimneys cleaned and inspected.

Insulate pipes, and allow faucets to drip a little during the coldest weather to avoid water freezing in the lines.

Keep fire extinguishers on hand, and make sure everyone in your home knows how to use them.

Make sure you always have emergency water, food and medical supplies on hand.
