According to the Lansing State Journal, General Motors Company will lay off as many as 1,100 people at its Lansing Delta Township Assembly plant when it cuts the plant's third shift in May.

Workers were given a 60 day notice of the layoffs Monday morning.  The plant employs roughly 3,000 hourly workers and 250 salaried workers.

The last day of the third shift will be May 12.  The plant will shut down from May to June to prepare for launches of the new Traverse and Enclave.  It will resume as a two shift operation on June 12.

Bill Reed, president of UAW Local 602, which represents the hourly workers at the plant, said the layoffs were expected.
