There's nothing more beautiful than looking at Michigan's fall colors just about anywhere in our Great Lakes State.

Fall is full of beautiful bold colors including reds, yellows and orange. And who doesn't love U-pick farms and vineyards with their ripe flavors of fall. Michigan's cities celebrate the season with fall festivals. (michigan.org)

Here are 6 ultimate things to do in fall:

1. Hike Michigan's Wild Places. This is just a matter of deciding on where you want to go hiking and then, just go for it. Putting on your favorite hiking boots and hiking the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is just wonderful. Lots of scenic areas especially with all of the brilliant foliage to look at.

2. Go Apple Picking. There are several places you can visit for apple picking during fall. One of those places is Crane Orchards U-Pick and Corn Maze. You can also check out Robinette's Apple Haus & Winery in Grand Rapids. There's nothing like fresh picked bushels of Macintosh apples.

3. Fish for Salmon. That's like asking me to fish for dinner and why not? I love salmon and fishing for salmon sounds like fun. One of the state's best fly fishing rivers is Pere Marquette near Baldwin. Even St. Mary's river near Sault Ste. Marie is a great location for fly fishing.

4. Book a Cozy Inn Stay. Now you're talking. My wife Lori and I love this sort of thing. Staying at a cozy inn and just relaxing sounds really nice. Enjoying a beautiful colorful forest walk and enjoying sitting by a roaring fire sounds good too.

5. Take a fantastic fall scenic drive. Autumn is the perfect time for a scenic drive. There are so many beautiful areas to choose from in the state of Michigan. One of them is the Lake Michigan shore along M-22, known as one of the best scenic drives. The U.P's colors peak long before those in the Lower Peninsula, so don't put off a trip along the Keweenaw Peninsula's M-26.
