Will Michigan Lawmakers Do Their Best to Suspend Gas Tax?
Show of hands please, how many of you are driving less since gas prices have hit their highest peak in years?
I don't know about you but I'm driving less these days. Basically to and from work Monday through Friday. The rest of the time, my wife and I are staying home as much as possible. (No long distance traveling)
Michigan drivers are looking for any kind of break they can get their hands on.
And if lower gas prices are a thing of the past for now, then what about suspending sales tax on our gas purchases?
Here's what mlive.com had to say:
After Senate Democrats effectively killed a Republican proposed plan to cut the state's 27-cent gas tax by not giving it immediate effect last week. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer promised a veto and declared her support instead for bipartisan proposals that would suspend the state's 6% sales tax on gas.
So many drivers in Michigan as well as across the United States cannot afford to be paying so much in gas. It's absolutely ridiculous that we're even paying over $4.00 a gallon.
Mlive.com also tells us:
Whitmer said in a press release Friday she supports suspending the state's 6% sales tax on gas as long as the proposal doesn't jeopardize road repairs, construction jobs, or funding for local schools.
Personally speaking, I think we're in for the long haul with higher gas prices and there is no guarantee that gas prices will drop anytime soon. And as far as suspending gas tax at the pump, don't hold your breath!
