MICHIGAN SMALL TOWN: Wacousta
Believe it or not, there are still some Mid-Michiganders who don't know where Wacousta is. Oh sure, they've HEARD the name before, but didn't know the location>
Well, you're about to find out - and when you do, I urge you to take a short drive over there and visit.
Wacousta is not only a part of Michigan history, but there's a nice handful of laid-back, small-town entertainment & enjoyment for anybody. Located on the banks of the Looking Glass River, Wacousta kicks off every summer with their Summer Celebration which brings people from miles around.
Wacousta has plenty of farmer's markets if you're looking for the freshest produce possible. There's a potter's guild, a fish fry every Friday, canoe trips down the Looking Glass, Heritage Park, the historic Watertown Charter Township Hall...and their famous General Store / Meat Market.
Wacousta is definitely a small town with a population of 1,440, as of the 2010 census...and it's a pleasant, charming place to spend some time visiting. Check out the photos above and get up there some time. Buy some fresh produce, awesome meats and visit the township hall (open 9-5 M-F). It makes a perfect afternoon!
