Starbucks has raised the price of its brewed coffee 10 cents to 20 cents at most of its company owned stores in the U.S.

The price for a 12-ounce drink, for example, is now $1.95 to $2.15.  The increase, which differs by market, went into effect Tuesday.

In the past year, the coffee chain has raised prices 1% to 2%, which is on par with the industry practices and is in line with food-away-from-home inflation, which is 2.2% to 2.4%.

Evaluating prices periodically allows Starbucks to balance the need to run their business profitably, while continuing to provide value to their loyal customers and to attract new customers.  Here's more from USA Today.
