The 30th anniversary of the Silver Bells in the City celebration tonight is expected to bring nearly 100,000 to the downtown Lansing area.  But the weather and travel could be a problem if you don't plan ahead.

MLive.com is reporting today that parking will be free in a number of areas beginning at 5 tonight to help welcome those heading to Lansing.  CATA is also offering shuttle service to and from the various activities planned during the 3-day event.

The event, that runs from tonight through Sunday, will include the 18th annual Electric Light Parade which begins at 6 o'clock from the corner of S. Washington Square and Lenawee.   A special guest from Walt Disney Wold will serve as the parade's first Grand Marshall.

A sing-a-long will be led by The Larry Callahan and Selected of God Choir as the groups curround

Travelers will also be encountering road closures in and around the parade route.  Some will be closed as early as 11:30 and will remain closed until 8 o'clock.  Others will close closer to the parade and begin at 4 p.m.

Those heading to the area should take time to check out more information on parking and road closures to avoid long delays.

The event will be cold and could also be wet, so make sure you dress the little ones appropriately for a several-hour excursion.
