Hundreds of police officers and firefighters gathered on the Capitol lawn Tuesday to protest retiree health care bills that were being considered during the lame duck session of the Legislature.

According to the Lansing State Journal, the rally quickly turned to a celebration as news spread that the bills would be shelved until after the new legislative session begins in 2017.

Republicans had been pushing for reforms that eliminated retiree health care benefits for local government employees and replaced those with a health savings account.  Click on the above link to read more.
