According to WILX, a new report says that most fire deaths happen overnight, especially when those fires begin in a living room or bedroom.

A fire escape plan is crucial to saving lives. Here are several tips from the capitol on how to keep your home fire safe.

1. Check the alarm by pushing the test button every month.

2. Never leave cooking unattended.

3. Never leave a fire in the fireplace unattended.

4. Keep clothes and other items three feet away from gas water heaters.
