The Abandoned Miller Airport: Reed City, Michigan
Miller Airport, also called Nartron Field, sits abandoned just north of Reed City.
The FAA Airport/Facility Directory says the airport was activated in August 1956, when Jim Miller, founder of Miller Industries, moved his business and employees to a defunct factory a mile north of Reed City. There, he built a landing strip and hangar in an attempt to stay in touch with his customers by air delivery.
In 1979 the old airport was purchased by the Nartron Corporation to handle its engineering and manufacturing operations. The facility was deserted for good in the late 1980's and it's been deteriorating ever since.
To read much, much more in-depth history on this landing field, the Our Transport Heritage website has it all.....just CLICK HERE.
The site still hangs onto the old terminal building, control tower, hangar, and cracked runway.
You can find this old abandoned airport just north of Reed City, about a mile and a half above US-10 off Old Highway 31.
