Michigan’s Fire Inspectors Will Inspect Every Fireworks Seller
According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan's fire inspectors are fanning across the state to inspect every fireworks seller as they hunt for sale of illegal firecrackers, rogue retailers and minors buying bottle rockets or Roman candles.
State fire marshal Kevin Schimeyer said the state has issued certificates for fireworks sales to 242 bricks and mortar locations and 570 temporary sites, such as tents.
Schimeyer said the 22 inspectors from the Bureau of Fire Services will visit all of them, while they'll also be on the lookout for retailers who are not state certified.
He also said that 40 percent of fireworks injuries are caused by illegal fireworks. Inspectors will issue citations to fireworks retailers who do not follow the Michigan Fireworks Safety Act.
