WHY is This State Michigan’s #1 Winter Vacation Destination?
When getting 'out of state' during Michigan's winter months, I like to find a destination that offers everything our fine state doesn't between November and March.

To my surprise, Thrillist's study of each state's favorite winter destination reveals that my fellow Michiganders are also looking for respite from clouds and windchill. It also seems that Mitten residents don't mind driving in hazardous conditions.
Michigan's Favorite Winter Getaway State
Thanks to the data hounds at the Thrillist, we now know where our fellow Michigan residents prefer to travel during the winter. When retreating from the Great Lakes State, our favorite destination is, unsurprisingly, Florida. Why?

2 out of 3 ain't bad. Yes, Michigan residents follow the migratory path known as I-75, as their ancestors did before them, to the Sunshine State. Here they seek beaches, overpriced souvenirs, pier dining, and hours of sunlight interrupted twice daily by a Florida downpour.

It's a peninsula, which makes us feel at home, and it's filled with older Great Lake State natives that we don't have to teach how to play Euchre. What's not to love? So grab your sunblock, pack the car up for what seems like a one-month stay, and spend a week in the Sunshine State. Chances are you'll see your neighbors there.
