If there's one thing my wife and I love doing, it's planting beautiful flowers during the spring and summer months.

One of those flower selections are geraniums. The next time you go for a walk in your neighborhood, pay close attention and just see how many homes have geraniums planted in the front or the side of their yard.

Michigan geraniums add so much color to your landscaping background. We get them just about every year and plant them right away.

Did you hear that dozens of Michigan greenhouses had to destroy their inventory of Fantasia Pink Flare geraniums because of a rare bacteria that could threaten important food crops?

This bacteria could cause major devastation to our food crops, like potatoes, peppers and tomatoes.

Countries that are dealing with this disease cannot ever plant these crops back into the same soil.

A Michigan grower was the first to alert authorities to the bacteria. The grower noticed a strange wilt on the flowers and sent a sample to a lab for testing.

Rest assured, you can still get geraniums, just not Fantasia Pink Flare.

According to the Lansing State Journal, geraniums are popular annual flowers. It's an old fashioned plant. They tolerate a lot of sun.
