Jerome Man One Of Three Winners In DNR Trail-Naming Contest
Michigan will soon have the longest state-designated trail; 1,259 miles of hiking, including a 774 mile biking route, stretching between Detroit's Belle Isle and the northwestern Upper Peninsula's Ironwood. 8,800 names were submitted in a contest hosted by the Department of Natural Resources last fall, and three winners were randomly selected from all the entries to receive a free vacation.
Matthew Husted of Jerome is one of the winners. There was also a winner from Lapeer and a winner from Rochester.
The name ultimately chosen for this new trail: Iron Belle. MLive has more from the DNR on why this is the perfect name.
