Cost-conscious Michigan shoppers are in for a surprise as Target prepares to axe a popular perk many have come to rely on. The move will fundamentally change how deal-hunting works across the state.
What’s Changing with Target’s Price Match Policy?
Under Target’s updated Price Match Guarantee policy, which takes effect July 28, customers will only be able to match prices found at other Target stores or on Target’s website within 14 days of purchase. But here’s the big change: Target will no longer honor lower prices from rivals like Walmart or Amazon.
Why Target Says It’s Changing It's Price Match Policy
According to Fox Business, the company says the decision is driven by shopper behavior. Target claims its customers “overwhelmingly price match Target and not other retailers.”

Target’s CEO: Why This Change Is Happening Now
CEO Brian Cornell added during a May earnings call that the retailer has been navigating an “exceptionally challenging environment,” citing declining consumer confidence and tariff uncertainty and signaling that this policy shift is part of a broader push to streamline operations and protect margins.
