"Nothing says "vacation" like kicking back in a small lake town. Whether you're in the midst of figuring out your summer vacation plans or are already planning a trip to a quaint winter village for next year, these small towns with lakes deserve a spot on your list. These all-season lake destinations have plenty to offer anyone who's dreaming up a romantic getaway, as well as those who want a family-friendly destination that'll impress even the teenagers in your family."
The "40 Best Small Lake Towns in America" covers those must-see spots from coast to coast across the U.S. with 2 of Michigan's favorites proudly making the list.
No big surprise here since the quaint West Michigan towns recently made the list for both "Top 20 Beach Towns in America" and "Top Lake Vacations in America". Country Living of course pointed out what Michiganders already knew about the charming waterside town saying,
"Saugatuck has 12 miles of award-winning beaches, a thriving arts community, plenty of hiking trails, unique shops, and more. Start your day with coffee and lavender honey toast at Respite Cappuccino Court before hopping on your private bus tour to the area's can't-miss wineries and breweries. Cruise around the Kalamazoo River and Lake Michigan at sunset with Sailing Saugatuck, and if you're wondering where to stay, reviewers love The Hotel Saugatuck for a luxe getaway."
Besides Lake Bellaire, the town is just a short drive to Torch Lake which is considered one of the summer's favorite destinations. With a population of just around 1,053, it takes the whimsical small-town vibe to the full extent. Country Living notes,
"Gather picnic necessities at Bellaire Smokehouse and feast on the dazzling shores of Torch Lake, which twinkles with a deep turquoise hue. As Michigan's longest inland lake, you can expect superb kayaking, fishing, swimming, and photo ops along its glimmering 19 miles. Tuck yourself in at The Inn at Torch Lake in nearby Alden, and fill up on mooncakes with wild cherry sauce or biscuits and gravy at Torch Lake Cafe."
Once again, Michigan is making a name for itself showing the world that your next vacation destination should be the Great Lakes State.
