Red pandas are, in my humble opinion, one of the cutest animals at Potter Park Zoo and perhaps the world.

I mean, just take a look at how cute this red panda cub is.

This cub was born on July 5th to mom Maliha and dad Deagan-Reid.

Mom and baby are doing well, they are off-exhibit and bonding, which is why you haven't seen Maliha recently. Dad Deagan-Reid can still be seen in the habitat.

The cub’s name will be announced later, as will its public debut.

What Makes Red Pandas Unique

It will be about two months before the cub will start venturing outside of the nest. Until then, baby and mom are bonding, which is crucial. Fun fact: "red panda newborns are born deaf, blind, and are small enough to fit into your palm."

This birth is a huge win for the species as well, which is considered endangered. "Their population has declined significantly, with estimates suggesting a 50% decrease over the last 18 years."

Congratulations to Maliha, Deagan-Reid, and the zoo team!
