Starting next month, things at Sweet Encounter Bakery & Café are going to look a little different.

Currently, Sweet Encounter Bakery & Café has a storefront inside the historic Knapp's Centre. But next month, the bakery will close its storefront.

Instead, Sweet Encounter will shift to an e-commerce model, taking customers’ orders online. The business isn’t physically going anywhere—they’ll continue operating out of the Knapp’s Centre in Downtown Lansing.

When is Sweet Encounter Bakery Closing Its Storefront?

If you'd like to visit Sweet Encounter before the e-commerce switch, the storefront’s last day is August 1.

Owner Nikki Thompson Frazier first opened Sweet Encounter in the Knapp’s Centre in February 2022. In 2023, Nikki experienced a health scare that led her to rethink the business and how she balanced it alongside her life and family.

Currently, the menu includes a variety of sweet treats—cookies, dessert bars, brownies, cupcakes—and savory items like quiche and sandwiches.

Moving forward, Nikki plans to streamline offerings, focusing on cupcakes-in-a-jar varieties. She also hopes to add baking mixes and a cookbook to the lineup in the next year.

All in all, Sweet Encounter isn’t going anywhere. It’s just getting a fresh new look.
