Everyone dreams about holding the only winning ticket when those lucky numbers are drawn. When the jackpots reach ethereal levels like this though, more often than not it seems the jackpot ends up being split among a handful of winning tickets.

Even If You Don't Win the Powerball Jackpot, You Could Still Be a Big Winner

In the event you're new to this Powerball thing and are just now getting caught up in all the excitement, here's the deal.

Powerball is a multi-state lottery game that is currently played in all but 5 states. The game began in the early 1990s, however, Michigan didn't join in until 2010. It used to only cost a dollar per ticket, but these days it's $2 per play.

Players can either choose a "quick-pick" (allowing the computer to choose their random numbers for them), or select their own numbers to play. Five numbers ranging from 1 to 69 are chosen to represent the white balls, along with one number ranging from 1 to 26 to represent the red Powerball.

A ticket must match all six numbers correctly in order to win the announced jackpot for that drawing (or at least a share of it in the event there are multiple tickets with the same numbers chosen).

But all is not lost if you don't match all six numbers. In the event you only match the five white balls - and not the red Powerball - you still win a cool $1 million! (Smaller prizes are awarded to holders of tickets with 2, 3, or 4 matching numbers, and to those who chose the Powerball correctly.)

Michigan hasn't had a jackpot winner yet this year in Powerball, but we've had quite a few ticket holders come close. Here are the Michigan retailers that have sold Powerball tickets worth $1,000,000 in 2022.
