There seems to be a lot of stories about people impersonating police officers in Michigan. If you think impersonating a police officer is a good idea, think again. What kind of punishment could you receive for impersonating a cop?

Hey moron, you are putting your safety along with other's safety at risk. Police officers are the ones that pull people over. Any idiot that thinks it is a good idea for a prank should think twice about that. If people are impersonating the police in an act of predatory behaior, you will be met with a force like none you have ever seen. Bottom line, if you are thinking about trying this, please seek therapy. It could help keep yourself and others safe.

I saw this story this morning on WLNS:

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — The Shiawassee County Sheriff’s Department arrested a 61-year-old man from Clare Monday for impersonating a police officer.

The department said the unnamed man was using flashing blue lights in his silver Jeep Cherokee to pull people over in the area of Grand River Rd and I-69.

Deputies were able to chase the suspect who was speeding away from the location of a pulled-over vehicle and arrested the driver.

On Wednesday morning the department said the man is being held in the Shiawassee County Jail awaiting an arraignment. There is no information made public about the charges the man might face.

What kind of crime is impersonating a police officer in Michigan?

The Michigan Legislature doesn't mess around with this type of behavior!

An individual who, in violation of subsection (1), performs the duties of a peace officer to commit or attempt to commit a crime or represents to another person that he or she is a peace officer to commit or attempt to commit a crime is guilty of a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 4 years or a fine of not more than $5,000.00, or both.

If you are thinking about impersonating a police officer, don't. It's toxic mental behavior and seeking help is the best idea. If you are caught impersonating a police officer in Michigan you'll be spending time behind bars.
