Michigan, If You Love the Moon, Did You See The Harvest Moon
We've got some amazing skies in Michigan. Our yearly visitor shined bright this morning. Did you look up to see the Harvest Moon.
What is the Harvest Moon?
For the most part all I knew was that it is a full moon. This is the last one for 2023 and is 1 of 4 we get to see in the sky every year.
I know it lights up the sky. It makes sense that they would call it the Harvest Moon because it might help farmers harvest past sunset.....just my two cents.
CBS:
The "Harvest" moon is the full moon nearest the autumnal equinox, according to NASA. It got its name because September is a critical month for crop harvesting in the Northern Hemisphere, according to the Farmer's Almanac. Sometimes the "Harvest" moon occurs in October.
Well done Nancy Drew, it's harvest season.
What's special about the Harvest Moon?
Ha, I called it. Extra light in the dark sky for the hard working farmers during harvest season seems legit. The Harvest Moon can also effect tides and weather.
Its bright moonlight after sunset traditionally provided farmers with extra hours to harvest their crops before the first frost.Besides its astronomical appeal, the Harvest Moon can impact weather patterns along the East Coast due to its influence on tides.
It peaked this morning just before 6am EST, can I see it tonight?
Although it won't be the complete full moon, there will be lots of moon to see. Build a campfire, make some smore's and enjoy the moon. It is Michigan though, there's a good chance of cloud cover anywhere in the state.
