Men, do you think you are a gentleman? A colleague of mine called me yesterday and asked me a question about funerals. That opened up Pandora's box about how we were both brought up and the values we hold dear to ourselves that exempify what a gentleman is. It's pretty common sense stuff.

I can remember old black and white movies with scenes of a man putting his overcoat down over puddles so his mrs. could keep attempt to keep her feet dry when she walked thru in her heels.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines a gentleman as:

a man who is polite and behaves well toward other people, especially women:

I also think that a gentleman is one that foresees issues and downfield blocks. I am always thinking about what I am doing with my wife and am I in the best position to protect her at any given time.

My mom was amazing when it came to teaching me about what a gentleman is. The simple quiz below comes from my upbringing. Being a gentleman also has to do with society and doing the right thing at the right time. Let's take the quiz and see how you do. If you were brought up anything me, you'll do good.

#1 When you see a funeral procession while driving, do you pull over or do you keep driving?

I pull over everytime I am involved in traffic near a funeral procession. As the family rides near the hearse to bury their loved one, I can pull over to respect that.

#2 When you are walking up the stairs do you walk in front of or behind your wife or mom?

I walk in front of my wife every time we go down the stairs and I follow her when we go up the stairs. In any situation I am prepared to break her fall if she slips.

#3 When walking together on the roadside are you taking the position closest to the traffic or not?

Gotta do it. Take that traffic position. Hopefully nothing tragic happens but if it does you're in better position to protect. This includes your kiddos.

#4 Are you holding the door for someone at the store, bank or gas station if you see somone approaching?

You bet, holding the door is old fashioned. It also can make an impact on someone's day. Your simple gesture could be the best thing that happened to that person that day and it can do more than you know.

#5 When riding your bikes together on a road, assuming you're riding on the right side of the road, are you riding in front or in back of your gal?

Take the postion in back. Not saying you're going to get run over but in the event there is a circumstance you want to be in the best position to protect. This goes for your kids too.

Hope you passed, it's a pretty simple quiz. If not, maybe brush up on a few things.
