Here’s What It Takes to Qualify as Michigan’s Capitol Christmas Tree
If you're reading this and it's not yet December and thinking it's too early for Christmas, I hate to break it to you. Michigan is already on the hunt for it's next state capitol Christmas tree.
I mean, something like this takes months of planning, it's not just done in one day.
What It Takes to Qualify as Michigan’s Capitol Christmas Tree
Each year, the hunt begins in the second quarter of the year, to find Michigan's next Christmas Tree. If you're wondering too, Michigan get's its Christmas tree's from all over the state, not just one specific farm.

On top of that too, you can even nominate a tree you own, to be the next State Christmas tree, but with exceptions of course.
What qualifies as Michigan's official Christmas Tree? There are a few things that either disqualify your trees, or qualifies them. Here are the parameters.
Tree Requirements
- Must be a spruce or fir tree
- At least 60 feet tall
- Maximum of 24 feet wide
- and no more than a 30 inch trunk
Other requirements do include easy access to the tree. If it is hard to get to, or requires a work around on power lines, it kicks that tree out of the running.

And, if you thought you'd make some money off the state Christmas tree, think again... The tree has to be free to the state, so don't expect a couple grand here.
Do you have a tree that you want to nominate to be the next Christmas Tree? You can submit it for qualifications.
