Moose are one of the most elusive yet special animals you can actually spot in Michigan. We traditionally think of them as Canadian creatures, but not only are we close to Canada, but Moose is very well established in our state, you just have to know where to look for them.

There have been many reports done about where the highest density of moose population is in Michigan, even going back to 2019 when a report showed that the upper peninsula had their moose population increase to over 500 in the western part of the state.

Through various reports done on the growing moose population, one Michigan resident actually made an infographic showing the area that most likely harbors the highest population of Moose in the state. The Reddit post was made on the r/Michigan page, and he goes by Gulo_gulo_1, and explains how he made the graph:

A little map I made as I learned of the March DNR count for the moose population in the UP. I have some higher density that the official DNR reports mainly due to their conservative counting methods, missing some potentially high moose population areas (particularly the Huron Mountains in northern Marquette and Baraga Counties), as well as the tendency for the DNR to grossly underestimate likely wildlife population sizes.

Given his graph, we can look at it and assume the cities listed below would be your best chance to spot a moose in the wild. Always remember to respect nature and not force yourself into their comfort zone and always stay safe. Moose can get aggressive and they'll kill ya.
