Michigan is known for many things but the unique town names we have throughout. The state has always jumped out to me. Places like Christmas, Hell, Paradise, and Kalamazoo are all unique in their own right. And what is most likely the most popular exit off of any highway is in Troy Michigan off of Exit 69 which goes to Big Beaver Road. What’s funny is there used to be a Hooters located right off of Exit 69 off Big Beaver Road. But I digress…

There’s also another exit that nerds are now gushing over and I’ll admit, as big of a nerd as I am, I didn’t get it until I was reminded of the book "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy." Somebody pointed out that Exit 42 off of M 59 is Adams Road. If you’re wondering what this has to do with Hitchhikers Guide, somebody was able to break it down...

How They're Connected

In Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, 42 is the number from which all meaning ("the meaning of life, the universe, and everything") can be derived. It is also a subroutine programming code when initiated closes the main program. Since a person is choosing exit 42 on I-75 it also means you are leaving the main program > I-75.

So there ya go. Exit 42 on I-75 is directly linked to this classic novel and Rochester Hills is the wormhole to carry you through.

Honestly, it's a bit of a stretch, but love the fact they were able to tie all that together, even though the City of Troy revealed who it's really named after:

Seymour Adams who settled in Section 32 of Troy Township in 1822.  But during the 1920s and 30s many called Adams Road Dodge Road, because it was the road to Meadowbrook, home of Matilda Dodge Wilson.

The Michigan Chillers Book Series

In All, Author Jonathan Rand wrote 20 young adult chilling novels about Michigan Cities, very similar to the Goosebumps books written by R.L. Stine. But these are all very specific to our very own state.
