In the never-ending search for revenue, another professional sports team has added a sponsorship patch to its uniforms.

That would be your Detroit Tigers:

Popular Midwest supermarket Meijer will now have a patch on the left sleeve for right handed batters and pitchers, and on the right sleeve for left-handed pitchers of the home whites and the road grays for the foreseeable future.

The Tigers are the 10th Major League Baseball team to have a sponsorship patch on their jerseys.

The Detroit News is reporting that official terms of the deal were not disclosed, but speculation is that the Meijer sponsorship will be worth $10 million per season.

Tigers players Matt Manning and Casey Mize modeled the new uniforms on Thursday morning at one of the Meijer locations in Detroit.

According to the News, 2023 is the first season that sponsorship patches could be put on Major League uniforms.

Ilitch Holdings executive Ryan Gustafson had this to say about Thursday's announcement:

"The Detroit Tigers and Meijer are synonymous with the state of Michigan, and we're thrilled to extend our partnership with an organization that has a common vision about community engagement, these are two of the most iconic brands in the state, creating millions of memories for fans and families each year. We appreciate Meijer's support and partnership, and look forward to working together serving our great fans and customers for years to come."

The 22-25 Tigers open a four-game series (with the new uniforms) against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday night.  You can hear the game on Lansing's Big Talker 1240 WJIM-AM with the pregame at 6:15 pm.
