This happens to be the fourth year in a row Walmart has closed on Thanksgiving Day and it's worked well for them as Walmart said:

“Closing our stores on Thanksgiving Day is one way we’re saying ‘thank you’ to our teams for their dedication and hard work this year. We hope everyone will take the opportunity to be with their loved ones during what’s always a special time.”

We're used to Walmart being open pretty much 24-hours every day, and they were always open even on Thanksgiving Day. Anyone could run over to pick up any last minute forgotten items for the big feast and watching the Lions.
