Michigan Has One of the 10 Best Historic Hotels in America
USA Today just published their list of the 10-Best Historic Hotels in America, and one of the hotels in Michigan made the list.
Each of the 10 winners were nominated for the title of Best Historic Hotel by a panel of hotel experts and voted as the best by readers so it's quite the honor.
So, number 10 on the list is -- not the Grand Hotel. It is on Mackinac Island, however, and it is the Island House.
USA Today said:
Located on the south shore of a small island in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, this charming family-run hotel dates back to the Fillmore administration. Since then, the Island House Hotel has seen many updates and now welcomes guests with cozy rooms and modern amenities. However, the fact that it's on Mackinac Island, which doesn't allow cars, will help transport you back to a simpler time.
I just love Mackinac Island because is such a treat in itself, even though back in the day you couldn't tell it...
Good grief ladies, smile for heavens sakes. Geez!
The Island House is in the great company of America's best historic hotels, such as the Hotel Del Coronado in Coronado, California, the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Royal Hawaiian in Honolulu, Hawaii, and the Peabody in Memphis, Tennessee. And the number one voted historic hotel in the U.S. is Hotel Bethlehem, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Today's newest hotels are all shiny and glittery with fancy amenities. But these historic hotels offer all of those things too, but along with so much added history, class and elegance.
As someone might say, "Oh, if those walls could talk!"
