Then what is the bad news? We will, and are having now, fewer daylight hours. What do we do when returning to standard time? We fall back, or move our clocks BACK one hour.
Why do we do this crazy stuff anyway, shift our clocks twice each year? It messes with our brains.
The sun sets earlier, there is less outdoor daylight time, our sleep is disrupted again even though we get an extra hour in the beginning.
It all began in 1918 and was called War Time. As European countries found, it was thought to save energy by adding more daylight hours to the day during World War I. It was repealed in 1919 since the war was over, and standard time ruled until 1942.
History.com says that's when President Franklin D. Roosevelt re-instituted daylight saving during World War II. This time, more states continued using daylight saving after the conflict ended, but for decades there was little consistency with regard to its schedule.
Our current version of Daylight Saving Time began in 1966 with the signing of the Uniform Time Act, and was revised again in 2005 to what we know today.
Will it ever change? In other words, will we ever settle on one permanent time?
According to the USA facts website, at least 45 states have considered or passed legislation to shift to permanent daylight saving time or permanent standard time. In 2022, the Senate passed the Sunshine Protection Act, which would move the US to permanent Daylight Saving Time. But the bill has not received a vote in the House of Representatives.
So, WHEN DOES DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME END THIS YEAR?
SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 3 at 2:00 am. we will set our clocks back one hour for Eastern Standard Time.
