Detroit Crowd ‘Loses Themselves’ when Ed Sheeran Invites Eminem Out On Stage
It was already an epic night in downtown Detroit on Saturday, July 15th when Ed Sheeran brought his Mathematics tour to Ford Field.
60,000 people gathered to sing their favorite songs from the radio including 'Eyes Closed' and 'Shape of You', but what they throught was going to be a a simple cover of a hometown hero turned out to be one of the most epic concert appearances in recent Detroit history.
Ed took to the stage telling fans, "I want to do a cover of Eminem" which caused the crowd to go wild for obvious reasons.
But what happened once Ed Sheeran got past the first chorus of "Lose Yourself" caused the crowd to scream so loud that you could probably hear them for blocks.
Eminem surprised the crowd by coming out and started into the rap part of the infamous song about his start right there in Detroit.
Then, after performing one song, Eminem was gracious enough to stick around and do one more. He joined Ed Sheeran for "Stan", having Sheeran sing the part that Dido does in the song, while he rapped the verses.
Ed Sheeran has been very public in the past about his love and adoration for one of Detroit's most iconic citizens. In fact, back in 2015 he originally admitted that as a kid, he developed a stutter after undergoing laser therapy for a port-wine birthmark on his face, and how his cure came in the unlikely form of an Eminem album.
Ed Sheeran said that he rapped along with Eminem's "Marshall Mathers LP" at the age of 9, and memorizing the words helped him overcome his stutter, which made him the superstar he is today.
It's pretty awesome to see their story come full circle, and congrats to the fans who got to see it. The rest of us are 'Losing ourselves' to the video that Ed Sheeran posted up for us to enjoy which you can see below.
