A Twitter User Just Discovered The UP Exists And The Reponses Are Hilarious
There are many unique things about Michigan that people take for granted. The Great Lakes are an obvious thing we Michiganders brag about. Going up North and enjoying all that the Upper Peninsula has to offer is another major flex. But unless you're from Michigan, the UP is something few even realize is part of our state.
The UP is frequently left off maps and was even recently left off Fox's game show "The Floor' when there was a question about Michigan. So when someone took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask what even happens in the UP, Michiganders showed up en masse to inform (and simultaneously clown) them.
"What goes on here?"
That was the question X user eleanor/@dimestorepaglia tweeted out yesterday before getting nearly 600 responses of varying degrees of seriousness. While her tweet was mostly a joke, the real jokers were in the replies.
User @dennismacelroy got things started with "a lotta Yoopin" which is accurate in a way that only we would understand. Others were trying to keep the UP's goodness a secret, with responses like "Shhhh" and "None of your business, actually."
From there, it was fun seeing how people chose to highlight various aspects of the UP. One user said "camping and small lake towns" another said "mosquitos, blueberries, and cold water", and another simply said "Escanaba in da Moonlight" (IYKYK).
However, this interaction was likely the most tongue and cheek answer of them all. Bringing up the delicacy that is a "pasty"
Managing to get a random user on the internet to ask about pasties (most likely mispronouncing it in their head) is a massive W, even if she left this thread more confused than they started. Stomach grumbled just reading about them...
So shoutout to you, Eleanor. Hope we helped answer your question! If you still don't understand the UP, here's some hidden gems you can become acquainted with.
