A Michigan location known as a summertime hotspot is getting national recognition for being a top place in the country to visit in the fall too!

"What's the best destination to visit in the fall in the U.S.?" is the subject of a new USA Today 10best readers' poll. A panel of experts chose 20 locations across the U.S. and then it was put up to a public vote to determine the top ten. The cities were chosen for their beautiful scenery, fantastic weather, and wealth of seasonal activities and events in the autumn.

The Michigan location up for the honor was also recently voted the No. 1 summer destination in the country... and now Mackinac Island has been name the No. 2 spot to visit in the fall!

USA Today praises Mackinac Island's crispy, sunny days and vibrant fall foliage, which you can take in during a carriage ride!

The Halloween Weekend is also a ton of fun. This year's festivities are Oct. 24 through the 27. You can participate in the Great Turtle Run and kids can go trick-or-treating at the downtown shops. In the evening, adults can head out to grown-up costume parties at local establishments.

Mackinac Island's rich history and whispers of ghost stories and spooky legends also make it a captivating autumn destination. HGTV recently named it the most haunted location in Michigan.
