Free Refills Will Be Going Away at Michigan McDonalds
Now that the 1 dollar drinks are gone at McDonald's the next step is to end free refills at Michigan locations.
McDonald's $1 Drinks a Thing of the Past
McDonald's started a summertime promotion in 2008 by selling all their drinks for $1.The drink special was so popular with customers that McDonald's made it a year-round feature for 9 years.
All good things end eventually and the $1 drinks were phased out in 2017. I always thought restaurants made their money on drinks and not as much on food so I wondered why they could do it for so long. It didn't come as a surprise when the fast food giant walked away from their $1 value items in 2013.
McDonald's Is Getting Rid of Self-Serve Drink Stations
When the $1 drinks went away at McDonald's, many of us who dined inside took advantage of the free refills. McDonald's claims that they want to keep all franchises consistent and the best way to do so, is to no longer allow customers to refill drinks themselves. I think we can handle refilling our drinks especially if you like more or less ice but that is the excuse they are using for removing the drink stations.
This shouldn't come as a surprise, especially after McDonald's restaurants had to pay higher wages to employees, the money had to come from somewhere. Enjoy those refills while you can because your local Michigan McDonald's will be phasing out the drink station over the next 10 years so watch out you may be asked to pay for that refill.
