Detroit is Going Hollywood With its New Signs
With the NFL Draft coming to Detroit, the city is shining things up with brand new signs reminiscent of the famous Hollywood sign in California.
The Famous Hollywood Sign
One of the most iconic signs in the world is the famous Hollywood Sign built on Mount Lee in the Santa Monica Mountains in California in 1923.
The Hollywood Sign was built originally as a temporary advertisement for a real estate developer. The sign became so popular it was left up and has since become one of the most famous signs in America.

Detroit is Installing Signs Similar to the Iconic Sign in Hollywood
The Detroit sign does not overlook the city from a mountain like the infamous Hollywood sign but instead of just one sign going up, there will be a total of 6. One of the 6 signs is called "The Gateway" and will be installed on the westbound side of I-94 at Proctor to welcome people to Detroit. The letters for The Gateway sign are 8 feet tall and are being built by a legendary sign company from Detroit called the Fairmount Sign Company.
According to WXYZ, the smaller signs will be installed along I-75 at 8 Mile, I-96 at Telegraph, I-94 at Moross, Southfield at 8 Mile, and Southfield at Ford Road.
The Detroit signs going up are another example of how the city is revitalizing itself. I visited downtown Detroit back in November and spent half the day walking around town and it has changed in many positive ways. Detroit has had a bad rap for a long time and hopefully, the new signs will give the citizens more pride in their city and show the rest of the world that Detroit is coming back.
