The California Wildfires have been devastating as many people's homes have been destroyed, businesses have gone up in flames, and there is still damage being done. The warm temperatures and the high winds have been blowing the flames all over Southern California as millions of people try to evacuate the area, while many of us stay updated on the tragedy through the news.

American Red Cross has branches of their organization all over the country, including here in Michigan. They are one of the many relief organizations that come to the aid of people during catastrophic events. The wildfires in California are one of those instances where they need expanded help and some kind people from Michigan are answering the call.

The American Red Cross has been responsible for helping those affected by the California wildfires with emergency shelter, family reunification, and equipment distribution. So far, 16 people have lost their lives as the 4 fires continue to blaze in Southern California.

At this moment, over 300 Red Cross volunteers have pledged their time to providing aid to those who have been negatively affected by the fires, even though some of them have been directly affected themselves. 4 of those volunteers are from Michigan and decided to make the selfless trip to make a difference in someone's life. There are 4 other volunteers who will be devoting their time solely to family reunification, although it will be done virtually from Michigan.

The American Red Cross is also accepting financial donations to help fund the aid and other expenses while the fires continue to rage on. If you would like to donate you can visit them at redcross.org, call 1.800.RED.CROSS (733.2767) or text CAWILDFIRES to 90999.
