Singer songwriter Lesley Gore known for her hits "It's My Party," "Judy's Turn to Cry," and "You Don't Own Me " died Monday at the age of 68.

I remember hearing her hit song "It's My Party" playing on the radio when I was only 12 years old.   I loved that song!

Lesley Gore was 16 years old when she was discovered by Quincy Jones and signed to Mercury Records.  She was a junior at the Dwight School for Girls in Englewood when "It's My party" became a #1 hit.

Gore graduated from Sarah Lawrence College with a degree in English/American Literature.  She was later nominated for an Academy Award for the song " Out Here on My Own," co-written with her brother, Michael for the film, Fame.

She is also beloved by comic book fans for her portrayal of Pussycat, Cat woman's sidekick, in the 1960's TV series Batman.
