Ingham County Sheriff’s Office to Cut Positions and Close Part of County Jail
The Ingham County Sheriff's Office will discuss a plan to commissioners today that would close a section of the jail and cut six positions to meet a $690,000 budget shortfall.
Officials expect those actions will help to patch a budget hole left after Wayne County pulled out of an agreement with the Ingham County Sheriff's Office.
Ingham County Sheriff Scott Wriggelsworth said he hopes his plan will meet the budget shortfall and sidestep layoffs at the department.
The county's current jail can hold up to 512 inmates. Nearly 100 of those inmates are contracted from different law enforcement agencies that may not have room in their own jails. Here's more from the Lansing State Journal.
