Fall In Love With Ice Skating This Winter

Have you ever been ice skating? I did it a lot when I was a kid growing up in St. Joe, we had a outdoor, public ice rink. It was $1 to skate and .25 to rent skates. My friends and I would go at night under the lights and skate our butts off.

That said, I haven't been on ice skates in nearly forty years. The closest thing to being on ice skates I've been is on roller skates, that didn't fare so well. I'm sure it's like riding a bike, it might take a minute to get back on the skates but it will be worth it. I look forward to taking my kids to try ice skating this year.

I did step on the ice one year at the Joe Louis Arena to be a goalie for a promotion. The contest winner had to shoot a goal on me, the sweet 80 year old woman smacked that puck and it came at me at 1 mile per hour. Of course she scored, thankfully I was wearing shoes or I would've blown something in my knee out.

There are many ice rinks in Michigan that you can visit to hit the ice. Indoor ice rinks are the way to go for me, getting older means getting colder, faster. A bunch of my friends have skated at Munn Ice Arena on the campus of MSU. That's a unique experience in itself because you get to skate on a Big 10 ice rink.

How about getting out with the kids this winter and trying something new. Perhaps I will run into you at one of these ice facilities this season.
