That was some storm the other day, cool to watch, but not fun when the power went out. Of course my family has had power outages before, but it's usually warmer and the power comes back on in a couple hours.  This week was different.  We were soo not ready to deal with multiple days like that.  Our first mistake was using our cellphones as flashlights, using up precious batter power, which we realized too late.  Then there was the holiday candles we used, very pretty during the holidays, but not really what we needed.  The next thing was the boredom.  We have all become so accustomed to our electronics, we don't know what to do without them.  So the first night we just went to bed, got up in the morning to dark rooms and cold water.  After work we arrived home...still no power (it hadn't even been 24 hours).  It was my sons last night in town before he returned to San Francisco, so the decision was made to go to our local pub for dinner.  At the pub we found most of our neighborhood.  It was great to see everyone, enjoy a warm meal, heat and an invigorating, yet humbling game of trivia.  We returned home to a dark cold house once again, this time, using our gas stove to heat the kitchen, probably not safe, but effective, we played cards for a while and just as we decided to give it up and hunker under a pile of blankets for the night...the power returned.  With the beep of the microwave turning back on and the blessed sound of the furnace starting up, our lives were back to normal.  I do think we may return to the pub for trivia night now and again and put the electronics away for a couple of hours and we will definately put together an emergency plan!I do want to thank all the people who worked to get our power back on and wish the best for those still in the dark.

Here's our kitty Julius relishing heat and lights once again :)
