Athletes from all over mid-Michigan showed up on Sunday to participate in the 10th Hawk Island Triathlon.  Believe it or not, it had to be stopped at 8:50 a.m. because lightning posed a hazard for endurance enthusiasts.

Sunday's races drew about 500 participants.  None of the participants were swimming when lightning forced the event to end.  After the call of lightning, there were several who decided they would press on and finish the entire race.

Another series of Hawk Island Triathlon events will be held this fall at Hawk Island Park, 601 E. Cavanaugh.  The adult triathlon races will take place Sept. 11.  Adults participate in one of two divisions.  Here's more information from the Lansing State Journal.
