The Dean Shippey Capital Diamond Classic has been ruled by the Grand Ledge baseball program for a majority of its existence.

According to the Lansing State Journal, the Division 1 No. 18 ranked Comets head into this year's tournament as one of the area's top teams.

Grand Ledge, which is the defending champion and has won four of the past five championships, is joined by Mason as the top seeds for the annual tournament, which begins Monday at Michigan State's McLane Stadium.

Grand Ledge and Mason are among seven area teams that appear in the latest Michigan High School Baseball Coaches Association poll that are part of the field for the Diamond Classic, which is in its 58th season.

All games for the tournament will be played at McLane Stadium, which is a first for the Diamond Classic.
