We all remember years ago when Walter French was used as a junior high school in Lansing.  The building is now owned by Eyde Corporation and is currently vacant.

What is now known as Walter French Academy, caught on fire Thursday afternoon at around 5 p.m.  As soon as firefighters arrived at Walter French Academy, they went inside to find the source of the smoke, but finding it actually took a couple of hours.

Thursday's intense heat, temperatures went higher than 90 degrees, also forced firefighters to slow down.

Firefighters put out the fire by 10 p.m.  Crews closed Cedar Street at Mount Hope Avenue in both directions to assist in fighting the fire.  Here's more from WILX-TV 10!
