As we continue to quarantine at home during the Covid-19 pandemic, more people are finding themselves in the kitchen and actually having time to cook a meal for their family.

We have all heard the stories that now flour is the hardest thing to find at the grocery store, again since more folks are cooking and also baking at home.  I still can't get over how much money we are saving by making meals at home, but just want to point out we do order curb side from a couple of restaurants a week to help out our local restaurants and their staff.

I was searching today for something that, not only tastes fantastic but would be fun to make and assemble.  That is when I landed on the Pastie,  you can find them all over the U.P., but you can also eat them at many restaurants in lower Michigan, even in Lansing.

I have had pasties my entire life, yes even with rutabaga which is the original way, and they are always delicious.  Last year my husband and I stopped at this out of the way place to grab lunch.  You know the kind of place that sells a few groceries, has a lunch counter and you can buy bait for fishing.

We had pasties and they were the BEST.   I did find out, however, that a true pastie lover eats them plain.   If you are a Troll, (someone who lives below the bridge like me) you might order a side of gravy or ketchup.  Even though that is a dead giveaway that you are not from the U.P., a pastie with gravy is delicious.
