I remember hearing this line from my parents when I was a kid, "Don't Let the Bed Bugs Bite!" As a kid, I never understood what that actually meant.

After all these years, I've never come across any bed bugs, at least any that I can remember. But that's not the same for 4 Michigan cities.

Let's break this down a little bit. Orkin recently came out with their 2023 bed bugs cities list. For the third straight year, New York City, Chicago, and Philadelphia hold the top three spots.

Now it's time to take a look at bed bugs in Michigan. (mlive.com)

In Michigan, Detroit is the 6th worst city in the country for bed bugs, down two spots from last year. Grand Rapids is ranked 12th, down one spot. Flint is ranked 21, up two spots, and Lansing comes in at number 42, up six spots.

I don't know about you, but I can't stand the thought of running across bed begs no matter where those disgusting critters come from.

So what do we really know about bed bugs? Mlive.com can help us out with that information.

“Bed bugs are extremely resilient, making them difficult to control,” said Ben Hottel, Orkin entomologist. “As people begin to ramp up their travel plans this year, it’s important they know how to protect themselves through pest identification and proper control. Contrary to popular belief, bed bugs are visible to the naked eye, but are excellent at hiding. Involving a trained professional at the sight of a bed bug introduction is recommended.”

I guess if anyone of us comes in contact with an army of bed bugs, it's probably a good idea to call "Orkin" and let the professionals handle it.
