Donations Fell Short for Red Cross Blood Donors
The Red Cross is desperate for local blood donors. The amount of donations fell short by more than 60,000.
Tim Kulman from Red Cross Communications says, "one of the reasons for the shortages is there are fewer volunteer hosted blood drives at work, churches and other community gatherings."
According to Kulman and WILX-TV 10, in some cities, hospitals have had to cancel elective surgeries due to shortages. Hospitals are using more blood due to more complex procedures.
