Michigan DNR Conservation Officer Helps Distressed Fawn

If you're anything like me, you love a good animal story. What's better than an animal story with a happy ending? One that happened right here in Michigan.

Yesterday, July 12, a Michigan Department of Conservation officer helped rescue a distressed fawn that was stuck swimming in a lake.

Saving the Fawn

Officer Sidney Collins received a call from the Montmorency County dispatch about a fawn that was in need of assistance. A family alerted authorities that they had spotted the fawn swimming around in circles when they were fishing and helped it to land.

When Officer Collins arrived on scene, she assessed the young deer's condition and determined it was in good health, which meant that the mother had to be close by.

Determined to find the fawn's mother, she returned to her car where she played fawn bleats on her loudspeaker to draw the doe in. Roughly twenty minutes later, the doe appeared and the pair were reunited.

Did You Know Deer's Make All Sorts of Noises?

Believe it or not, I've never actually encountered a deer close up. I mean, I've come across them when I'm driving and they're on the side of the road or I'm hiking, but I usually have my head phones in.

So, I had no idea that they made any type of grunting or snorting noise until one of my co-workers was talking about how the deer by her house gasp at her.

Apparently, white-tailed deer are extremely vocal and make all sorts of weird noises.
