You might think that some school buses have seat belts, but they actually don't and there is a big push for them all over the state. The last time I was on a school bus was about two years ago and I never really thought about seat belts because school buses are safe. This is a thought that most people have and actually studies show that school buses are the safest way for students to travel, so what is the push for seatbelts now?  It is because the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services is recommending all new school buses come with three-point seatbelts.

According to WLNS, Dean Transportation is on board with putting seat belts on all of their buses around the state. The only thing is that there is a budget shortfall, due to coronavirus, and it will cost $10,000 per bus to put seat belts in. With the school year up in the air and when school comes back there might be less children on the bus which could give companies time to install seat belts, but most are saying they shouldn't wait.

The Michigan Association for Pupil Transportation have other ideas for buses as they want to have better brake technology and technology for stability control. You can see more about it here.

But how do you feel about it, should all school buses have seat belts or should they do other advancements to buses? Tell us with our app (link below) and use the CHAT feature.
